"Never stop following your dreams. Stay open to what is yet to come — and never, never lose your curiosity."
Marion Shapiro · 101 years old · Lisa's Greatest Teacher & Mother
Marion, born in 1924, was never your typical housewife. She was always exploring- drawn to learning about Eastern Philosophy, trying her hand at painting and sculpture, supporting women's rights, and taking Yoga classes - long before these paths were widely embraced.
She never told her children how to be or how to live; instead, she showed by the example of her life. She moved through the world with composure, kindness, and an enduring curiosity. Believing deeply that the most important thing in life is to be kind to others.
She loved to travel, and when Lisa was old enough, they began exploring the world together. Marion seemed to have boundless energy, often mingling long after Lisa had taken herself to bed.
Wherever she went, people were naturally drawn to her. Not because she was looking for attention, but because she carried a gentle presence of grace and a natural charm.
Long before such journeys were common, she traveled with her teacher to India, spending time in the orphanage in Calcutta with Mother Teresa.
At home, she shared a beautiful marriage and created an environment filled with love. In all their years together, Lisa never once heard a harsh word between her parents. Her father referred to her Mother as “Maid Marion”.
She never judged. She never raised her voice.
And here she is at 101, never having eaten a vegetable or salad in her life. Still ending each day with a piece of chocolate - dark chocolate of course!
